There’s always something wonderfully obscure to be found online, isn’t there? Today’s offering is about the lesser-known work of Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld , who was one of the principal members of the De Stijl movement, famous for the furniture and houses that he designed, like his Red and Blue chair and the Rietveld Schröder House. But did you know that he designed a dolls house too?
In 1940, Rietveld presented the plans for this dollhouse to the Jesse family who had frequently used his services. More recently, it’s become a piece of hot auction property, now owned by the Brooklyn Museum.
