Our Sydney correspondent Elana Castle takes us to one of her favourite spots today:
Surry Hills is one of my favourite Sydney neighbourhoods. I love the combination of quirky shops and cafes squeezed in between the Victorian terraced houses. On my very first visit there I stumbled upon davidmetnicole – a store that sells an eclectic mix of interior collectibles.

David and Nicole Page are the energetic husband and wife team behind the brand. The pair met in a vintage shop on London’s Portobello Road and after many years in the UK, decided to return to Nicole’s home town, where they established davidmetnicole. They regularly scour the globe looking for well-made vintage and contemporary pieces that appeal to their “British Style”. I think the combination and curation of the pieces work so well.
One of my favourite “ranges’ is their extensive collection of individual letters and signs. Vintage printers’ blocks sit alongside Scrabble letters in beautiful wooden bowls. You can easily lose track of time putting together personal word combinations. I also love the random assortment of jars and receptacles.

The strong British theme extends to their collections of flags, fabrics and furniture. There is something strangely irresistible about a cushion covered in Union Jack fabric!

I’m also a big fan of the restored industrial shades that hang from almost every corner of the store as well as the world globes which add extra “international” flavour. Some date back to the 1930’s and all of them are lithograph printed. The jewellery in the display cupboard is also vintage, and Nicole designs and sells some of her designs in the shop.

It’s a gem of a store. An additional plus is that David and Nicole are constantly changing their stock which keeps me going back again and again…and again… Also, you can see what’s in their collections by visiting the davidmetnicole website.

Mamma Mia how could I have missed this gem of a store!?!
With a deep love for industrial-chic interiors and an absolute love for finding the perfect treasure to add to our Swedish-Australian home, I can’t believe that I have not been to David met Nicole.
THANK you Elana and Elle Decoration South Africa for bringing this to my attention!
Have a lovely end to the week and thanks for a great blog!
