Set amongst the scrub of the vast Karoo, this sandstone farmhouse outside Middelburg is the enviable escape for a Cape Town couple.

After a renovation that included widening the verandah to super-generous proportions, and adding extra fireplaces for those icy Karoo nights, the owners furnished the place with a charming jumble of hand-me-downs, junk shop finds, and lots and lots of artwork too.

With an abundance of mountain views, fresh air, horses to ride, reservoirs to swim in, and squishy sofas for relaxing, this farmhouse is the perfect antidote to South African city life.
