Help grow a Wallflower

Local designer Haldane Martin brought a welcome breath of green air to the Design Indaba Expo last week, when he launched the prototype of his  Wallflowerᵀᴹ Vertical Garden.

Wallflower

This modular planter system that has been designed to enable city dwellers to grow their own organic vegetables and other plants on vertical walls where ground space is limited.  The fractal, honeycomb pattern is made up of three sizes of wall-mounted containers, integrating metal trellising and a branching, water-efficient drip irrigation system. The planters are made from recycled roto-moulded polyethylene plastic and the mounting hardware is made from recycled stainless steel. Wallflower is not yet in production, as Haldane Martin is going the interesting route of funding the tooling up for the project using Kickstarter.com, an innovative crowd funding platform for creatives. If you’d like to contribute to the greening of the concrete jungle with this environmentally-friendly project, you can pledge your support (and reap rewards) by visiting the Wallflower Urban Garden page on Kickstarter.com.
