This is pure genius – and the perfect lighting solution for outdoor living. Consol‘s newly launched Solar Jar stores energy during the day and releases it at night, offering six hours of light before needing to be recharged in the sun. The lid mechanism of the jar has been fitted with solar powered LED lights, as well as a mini solar panel, offering a safe and practical energy alternative. And the best part? It comes with a switch so that the light can be controlled. It retails for R120, and is available at the Consol retail outlets in Woodmead and Stellenbosch. We’re giving one away to a lucky reader. Simply tell us where you’ll be displaying yours by commenting below, or tweet about it. Competition ends Friday 20 January 2012.
DECO IDEA Place any small object or found image inside the Consol Solar Jar for a unique display underneath the light, such as these cut-outs in our Consol jar display featured in our Spring Issue (above).

We go camping often and this would really be a fabulous prize for those evenings under the stars.
I would use this fantastic prize to light up my entrance so that I can see my way to the door when I get home at night. No more remembering to leave a light on! I love the innovation!
It would be absolutely fabulous in our new stoep area we recently added to our home. The atmosphere something like this creates is just amazing. Going green with absolutely no effort. Fantastically innovating!
On the kitchen sill
On the porch looking out onto the pool of our new house!!! Would be perfect.
I would fill the jar with shells and display it in my bathroom – perfect for creating a little ambience when guests come for dinner!
This is a fantastic idea. Hopefully, they will be marketed in the US, so we can have access. If I win the solar jar, I would put it in outdoor patio to serve as romantic lighting over dinner for two!
i will be displaying my BOTTLED SUNSHINE “CONSOL SOLAR JAR” from the bamboo rod roof on my porch above my outdoor table. i love this fantastic green idea!
Insanely awesome!! Best idea i’ve seen in a LONG time!
It will efinitely be displayed in my daughter’s room as she always chides me that the bulb light is “too bright” for her liking!!
I will take my Consol Solar Jar with me to Greece in May 2012 to spend 1 month working and writing on a beautiful olive farm called Axladita Avatakia. I will be camping in the olive grove and live in a small 2x2m tent. My Consol Solar Jar will remind me of sunny South Africa! I am quite sure I will be coming back with orders for many more Consol Solar Jars as no open flames may be used on the olive farm! Nici Richter
unique initiative and energy saver, exactly what we need.will be good to have these to display anywhere and everywhere.in the garden will be nice.
near my front door, so i have some light when im searching for my keys.
I have wanted to build a deck off my home for as long as I can remember. About 5 years ago, I had a house fire that started with candle. I now have battery operated/timed faux candles!!! I love the look of the preserve jar and eat and make many things in them….but eating up sunshine….what a wonderful idea…preserve daylight to live off of at night! Brilliant…This magnificant jar will hold on place of honour on my new deck! First Season in use, Spring 2012 Let me christen my deck with a Consol Solar Jar, in Mississauga,Ontario,Canada Merci Beaucoup!
Love light for a love night!

I’ll be there soon to purchase mine……
we have a pontoon on the Mogalakwena river in Limpopo.my jar of sunshine will be hanging on the yardarm with pride!to show us the way back to our small harbour.
Wow!! So many idea’s..I will decorate my Solar jar and put it in my baby boy’s room…or my friend has got a wedding/stationary bussiness and i think it would look really fab (decorated with some protea’s or rockroses – to make it real “South African”) as decorations hanging from tree’s to lightup the night on a wedding!
I would fill it with bright coloured sweeties to put out on the dessert table when having guests over..
I shall use 5 lights at my grandson’s 17th birthday party. Each light jar will have a translucent photograph of him inside taken at various ages.
