The Botany Project is the epitome of our South African uniqueness: using ordinary things (olive oil, a jar and a fynbos flower) and ordinary people (community artists and local producers) to create something extraordinarily beautiful, practical, inspirational and thought-provoking. It fits so well with the article showcasing Jackie Burger’s Karoo hide-away – bringing together ordinary beauties of nature and decor to form a unique experience between South Africans and the land we love.

    Well done!

I love that these lamps recreate the intrinsic beauty of Fynbos perfectly and that their simplicity is part of their charm. The winter issue feature on your editor’s getaway home was great – loved how such the simple spaces still feel so full of personality.

This flower power idea is simple, beautiful and eco-friendly. A small way to make a difference as well as incorporate a proudly South African approach to interior design and styling.

Oh and I cannot stop looking at the beautiful rugs featured in the Winter Issue. I am busy sourcing rugs to eventually decide on the perfect match for my new apartment. One of the toughest items to find and instantly love.

It just goes to show, how everyday things, that ussualy end up in most peoples trash have becoming fashion icons! I have developed an obsession with glass bottles! Finnishing the last of the jam and marmite just to gather the bottle! And I just love this little flower lamp! Its one of those inspirations jumping off of the pages! Those small little geniuses that make you think twice when you’re throwing out. Like the chair legs on pg 76 and 77! How creative!!! Just love it!

It’s rare to see the trendiness of sustainability combined with real, delicate and sculptural beauty – The Botany Project has achieved just that. The simplicity and clean lines of each piece make it an object to treasure in every home – I would certainly do so in mine!! The best part for me though is the awareness generated by each piece, even more reason not to take the Cape Floral Kingdom for granted. Love, love, love them all x

  11. Kate says:

PS Also passionate aboout the knits featured in your winter issue, feel warm just looking at them.

  12. Cecile says:

This was my favourite thing from the Design Indaba this year! There is a trader at the Milnerton market who sells antique botles for a song. I have always looked for an excuse to buy them- i think this is it! Love the Karoo pictures too!

  13. Marike says:

Love everything on page13! The design is clever, beautiful and truly South African. The lamp illustrates the beauty and simplicity of South African design and our relationship with nature.
    Pinned It! Liked it!

Love this Issue, especially Jackie’s house in the Karoo – would love to sit at her kitchen table with ‘plaas beskuid en boere troos’. (Rusks and coffee)

  14. Jen Coulson says:

This is incredible. I love new ideas for sustainable living – and this is a gorgeous way to do it! South Africa never ceases to amaze me with our resourcefulness and intrinsic sense of beauty… which is also so clearly shown in the Karoo Road Trip article in your latest issue! Loved the homes on feature too. Elle Decoration, you inspire me so much :)

  15. Marcelle says:

  17. Marcelle says:

I have emailed them 2ce and received no response :( I have also tried calling but the phones are on voicemail. So….. frustrating

  18. Helen says:

The flower lamps are just beautiful, as well as functional – fulfilling both of the criteria for having something in your home!
I was really inspired by the simplicity of the Stromboli house in issue 84, just lovely.

  19. Rushka says:

the Botany project is excellent as it includes two extremely important factors which the design world are leaning more towars which is sustainabaility and providing jobs for te local community, enriching the country as a whole. Making use of the Roellas fynbos linking back to nature and representing the beautful land that south africais. each province has a unique element, hisortically, culturally or organically to represent it, this is truly brilliant further showing what a vast melting pot south africa is.

im loving the Q&A with greg melloe in the winter issue

  20. Jana says:

Flowers are used to celebrate occasions that have sentimental value to us. Flowers are unique in form, color, shape and smell. And are appreciated in bunches, isolation, in nature or on the table. They can say sorry. Welcome. Congratulations. I love you.

The simplicity of every day products (such as jam jars and olive oil) that are used to contain these upcycled creations, highlights the artistic skills applied to recreate this incredible gift from nature…

  21. Jana says:

And what I most love about edition no 84 is the break-away paradise home in Prince Albert. The use of natural materials, indigenous plants and calm composition of space and colour, makes all the wrong shades of blue just perfect!!!
