Our Ed, Laureen Rossouw routinely insists that we take off our scarves and open them out on the table for everyone to admire. Team DECO concurs with our Ed-In-Chief. ie. That a work of art on a square of silk deserves to be seen in ways other than in twisted folds around one’s neck.

“Imagine you hang or frame a whole lot of these things up on the wall?” pondered the Ed, just the other day.

And the universe replied.

Or at least, legendary scarf brand Hermès, did.

For its latest wallpaper collection, Hermès brought out fourteen patterns by fourteen designers, taking the lead from the look of archival designs for the brand’s iconic silk scarves. “This collection reveals the passion Hermès has for telling stories,” says Florence Lafarge, creative director of Art de Vivre. From Hugo Grygkar’s trompe l’oeil bookshelves to Jean-Louis Clerc’s day at the races, these works of art are all equally enchanting.

Equateur (above), was designed by naturalist painter Robert Dallet in the 1980s, showing off an exotic collection flora and fauna. Says Lafarge: “The strength of the details allows us to travel through this wild and mysterious world.”
