Austrian glassware manufacturer Lobmeyr has been around for almost 200 years, producing exquisite mouth blown glass and crystal ware. I’m just entranced by these highly graphic photographs of some of their simpler pieces.

French photographer Denis Darzacq has made a series of photographs of people poised, mid fall. They capture an oddly dreamy moment in time that only really exists in a photograph.

Two Dahlias

I just heard about this brand new print by Frances Pelzman Liscio for The Working Proof. The print edition is called “Two Dahlias” and it features an intricate floral arrangement of dahlias, kalanchoe, violas and Christmas Cactus in various states of bloom and decay.

The Working Proof is an online print gallery and shop with the mission of promoting both art and social responsibility through a series of limited-edition prints. 15% of each Two Dahlias print sold is being donated to the very worthwhile Puppies Behind Bars programme.

Our regular guest, Neville Trickett has been somewhat scarce lately, as he’s been mad busy with the relaunch of Saint Verde on his farm, as well as working on a brand new blogging concept (read all about that here). It’s great to have you here today, Neville!

Seydou Keita, who produced these amazing portraits in Mali back in the 1940’s and 50’s, is right up there on my list of favorites. All of his subjects seem so noble. Being the pattern junkie that I am, it seemed that the illustrations by French designer and author, E.A. Seguy were the perfect partners for his photographs.

Australian interiors photographer Paul Barbera has the most glorious website called Where They Create, where he’s documented the work spaces of visual creatives and artists. I must just warn you before you enter this site: it will be a long, long time before you re-emerge, so hang your Do Not Disturb sign and dive right in.

Awww, baby animals!

And medium size animals…

… and big ones too!

They come in all sizes, and also in the long, short, tall, hairy, fluffy, scaly and feathered styles, and can be found as limited edition photographic prints at Sharon Montrose’s Animal Print Shop, and also at her Etsy shop. They’re all real live animals, most of whom live in private zoos and animal sanctuaries in California.

Toby Shapshak, editor of Stuff Magazine, and all-round fan of all things from the Future sent this one through, so he’ll be taking the blame for any of the potential (ahem) fallout.

Photographer Richard Ross’s book Waiting for the End of the World deals with the rather bleak subject matter of bomb shelters, which he photographed over a period of five years, on three continents. To whet your appetite, I’ve picked out a couple of Ross’s powerful images here, but to see and read more, visit this great post about it at Good/Magazine.

Saint Verde’s-eye view: My all time best Hindu temple

Props to Neville Trickett for coming through with his guest post today, after having (ouch!) fatally dropped his laptop just before the weekend. Great recovery, Neville!

I have been taking photos of all the Hindu temples in and around Durban, and the oldest of them happens to be my all time best. Away from the mindless rush of commuter traffic on Umgeni Road is an oasis of peace and quiet. Set under groves of palm trees is the S.V.E.A Hindu tTemple, whose original buildings were erected in 1883, making it the oldest temple in Durban by a country mile. The thing I like most about the architecture is the way years and years of whitewash has softened all the edges, leaving them, well, tranquil, which after all is the whole point.
