Cross country: The Bicycle Portraits Project

Two years, 500 portraits and 6000 kilometers later, and the Bicycle Portraits Project has finally reached its completion. Photographers Stan Engelbrecht and Nic Grobler have published their two-year journey in a three-part book – officially launching at this year’s Design Indaba in March. And it’s been worth the wait. The book is a beautiful compilation of the 165 best portraits and stories taken from their cycles across South Africa – a documentation of South Africans and their bicycles.

The books are designed by Gabrielle Guy and features the most beautiful hand-painted Google maps (below) by South African artist Gabrielle Raaff, each providing the exact location of the portraits and cyclists.

Official launch: Design Indaba Expo in Cape Town (2 – 4 March 2012)
