You can buy the clothes, and now you can live in a house, designed by Kanye West.
Yes, the outspoken rapper announced via Twitter that he’s expanding his Yeezy brand to include an architectural arm. “We’re starting a Yeezy architecture arm called Yeezy home. We’re looking for architects and industrial designers who want to make the world better,” West wrote via his personal account. Though this might come as a surprise to some, West has always had a keen interest in architecture and design. He worked closely with interior designer Axel Vervoordt to style his Hidden Hills home with wife Kim Kardashian and has often been quoted about his love for design in numerous interviews. He also collaborates with his set teams to create revolutionary, out-of-this-world stages for his tours. His recent Saint Pablo tour in 2016 was most recognised for its hovering stage that moved throughout each of the stadiums, creating a larger-than-life house party effect.
West made a name for himself as an award-winning musician but has recently taken the fashion world by storm with his Adidas collaboration, Yeezy. Now in its sixth season, the range is hugely successful and sells out in minutes. He’s also not afraid to break with tradition. This year, he decided to skip showing his latest collection at New York Fashion Week, and instead had his wife – the most photographed woman in the world – parade the range in a kind of guerrilla lookbook. Controversial, but clever, as the concept worked and the range was well-received.
Whether you’re a fan of his music or not, there is no doubting that Kanye West has a strong and striking aesthetic. And, it goes without saying that this new business venture will be a success. The real question here is, would you want to live in a Yeezy-designed home?
