Baby, it’s cold outside!  It’s time to layer up, cover those bare floors- get the mercury rising. In the DECOLab section of our Winter Issue 96, we look at House-Warming. This is our wish-list of rugs and carpets for the home.

DID YOU KNOW

The term ‘carpet’ derives from the Latin carpere, ‘to pluck,’ probably because carpets were made from unraveled ‘plucked’ fabric. ‘Carpet’ has the same Latin root as carpe diem, literally ‘pluck/seize the day.’

Things to consider when buying a carpet or rug

  • How is the room used? How much traffic does the area get, and how much light will the carpet get?
  • For high traffic areas like hallways and foyers you need a durable, patterned rug.
