Meet ‘window stitcher’ Lauren Fowler

This past Monday, The Fringe Arts in Cape Town played host to the city’s social media folk when it presented a showcase of work by its latest artist in residence Lauren Fowler, Cape Town crafter, illustrator and self-proclaimed thing-maker.

The shop’s two box windows became the setting for Lauren’s ‘residency’, with passers-by being treated to ever-changing and larger-than-life cross stitching window displays. ‘I took cross stitch orders, and just generally worked from the window, making pretty, fiddling with the windows and changing stuff up.’

Our favourite stitch work display? This larger-than-life owl.  ‘I almost crashed into the sidewalk when I saw Lauren’s owl illustration,’ said Elle Decoration designer Charl Edwards.

Lauren will be producing work from The Fringe Arts until this Friday. To see more of her work and other 100% local products by local designers, visit 99B Kloof Street. Even if it’s just to admire Lauren’s tattoos!
