As you start filling up your 2016 diaries, make sure you prioritise Africa’s leading international art fair The Cape Town Art Fair, taking place from 19 – 21 February at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Showcasing contemporary art from Africa and around the world, this is the fourth edition of the Fair and it is not to be missed.
Sponsored by Sovereign, the Cape Town Art Fair attracts top galleries, artists and curators from the continent as well as the rest of the world. With over 7 000 visitors last year, and the expanded venue of the CTICC the Fair is sure to offer and accommodate even more.
This year, enjoy 58 exhibitors, a talks programme featuring a host of local and international participants, and a special project Tomorrows/Today, consisting of 8 artists curated by Azu Nwagbogu and Ruth Simbao. Along with a VIP programme, visitors to the Fair will also be able to enjoy curated walkabouts twice a day.
The aim of the talks programme is to reconsider the relationships of art fairs, cultural institutions and inter-continental exchange whilst focussing on Africa’s place in the global conversation around contemporary art production.
With an esteemed and vast selection of international speakers, special guests and moderators, including Founder and Director of Biz Art in Shanghai, Davide Quadrio; Curator of International Art at London’s Tate Modern, Kerryn Greenberg; Head Curator at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Claudio Cravero; and the Director of the Zeitz MOCAA, Cape Town, Mark Coetzee.
