Arian Prin’s RUST collection is back, celebrating new texture effects, shades and patterns. The homeware collection is an extension of the 2015 range and will be showcased at the 2016 London Design Festival.
RUST is inspired by the desire to create new form and utility out of common waste materials. The collection’s varied surface patterns are obtained by the oxidation of metal particles. No two items in the collection are the same: each is made by hand and has a unique texture, varying in colour and/or intensity.
RUST Timepiece highlights the inescapable relationship the material has with time. The wall clock is made up of 12 sections and each section is put through a controlled oxidisation process. Each Timepiece features a new range of colour arrays explored: grey, orange, green and blue, for steel, brass and copper dust.
The shapes I chose for the RUST range are extremely simple. I wanted to let the material and its visual articulation be the heroes of this series of products.
I am working blind, the pieces are white at the beginning and they take their coloration over time. I never know what result I will get.
