We’ve all received that phone call/text message – “I’ll be at your place in 30 minutes”. Cue the panic. If you’ve had a particularly lazy weekend or a hectic week that has resulted in not enough time to clean at home, you’ll be all too familiar with the ‘guests are en route’ cleanup routine.

There is actually no need to work yourself up into a spin if you find yourself in this predicament. It is possible to welcome your visitors to a spick and span home, you just need to clean smart. Whether you have 30 minutes or 2 hours, these task lists should guide you when it comes to cleaning your home for guests without much notice.

IF YOU HAVE 30 MINUTES

  • Tidy up common areas, and fluff pillows
  • Wipe down sinks and countertops in bathroom and kitchen. Move dishes into the dishwasher
  • Empty garbage bins and take out the trash
  • Replenish guest towels, soap, and toilet paper.
  • Light scented candles and dim the lighting

IF YOU HAVE AN HOUR

Do the above and then this:

  • Vacuum or sweep the floors
  • Clean the toilet. Tidy up the bathroom
  • Clear and dust all surfaces
  • Make the beds

IF YOU HAVE TWO HOURS

Do the above and then this:

  • Wash towels and bathmats
  • Mop the floors. Wipe down the baseboards
  • Clean the bathtub and shower
  • Clean out the fridge and microwave
  • Wipe down all mirrors
