Staying in hotels has its perks, but for those looking for a more intimate, homely environment, a guesthouse is a fantastic getaway option. And if stylish, attentively curated and sumptuously comfortable are on your list of criteria, then look no further than Cape Town’s newly renovated 12 Hofmeyr.

A sense of olde-world-meets-new-world elegance is embodied within the walls of this historical 1900’s Victorian guesthouse that has recently seen new light. A bold move for architect Marine Leblond of The Collective, the original facade of 12 Hofmeyr remained intact after centuries of alterations and to retain this historical building’s authenticity while maximising on contemporary elements was nothing short of a feat.

But the result is clear: A harmonious mix of old and new that has been adapted to modern living. Although located in the heart of the city, the plot is surrounded by old trees and greenery, creating a unique sense of calm and privacy. The old flat roof has been transformed into an intimate roof terrace with a private jacuzzi and remarkable views over the mountain and city.
