Last year, Heineken literally took design to the next level by launching their premium 330ml Cool Can. Now, it’s not often that DECO takes an interest beer, but after hearing the line-up of talent and creative brains partaking we had to take a closer look. Enter the Next Level exhibition in Braamfontein, Johannesburg…
Designed inside a shipping container, an innovative pop-up bar with sleek interiors was used to showcase designers, inspire creative collaborations and offer a space for networking between various creative disciplines. with featured designers such as WIID Design, Joe Paine, DOKTER AND MISSES, Leg Studios and Atang Tshikane, you can understand why we had to get inside.
With ongoing installations and activations the energy pulsating and each day a different local artists/designers took over the space to showcase their latest work, furniture or decor.
By day, a creative workspace and by night the coolest place to be in Braamies.
The prominent Johannesburg-based designer Joe Paine, focused on modernist ideals and outdoor elements, featured an original edition of Paper Clip Chair to the space. Made from metal steel the concept is designed to lay between your shoulder blades, and the proportional design makes for a surprisingly comfortable seat.
Bringing together two unlikely materials – cork and concrete – bar stools were designed by Wiid Design and inspired by contemporary culture and traditional handcrafting. Their products range from tableware, side tables, stools, benches and a wide range of lighting.
DOKTER AND MISSES contributed with the wall mounted Sad Lamp, which is simple yet conceptually smart, with their common theme of bold colours, unique graphic shapes and solid construction lines.
Chairs DOKTER AND MISSES have quietly been gathering a loyal design following as they introduced their new geometric Hang tray. Using powder coated aluminium the bent steel detailing can be hung up for storage and work as a detached butler tray.
