Introducing the new editor of ELLE Decoration South Africa, Bielle Bellingham. This is what she has to say in her first issue.
You and I both know that getting a home to look and feel as exquisite as we want it to is sometimes quite tricky. To say the very least. There are all sorts of things that seem to get in the way.
Somehow any store I walk into, fancy or budget, my favourite item is literally always the most expensive one. I have files of magazine tear outs and an indecent amount of secret pinterest boards just waiting to be brought to life in my home, but, inevitably, there just aren’t enough hours in the day, or one has to sort out the leaking roof first, or replace the fridge. Then there is also that painting you inherited that just isn’t quite your style, or the couch you were obsessed with last season that is just that, so last season. So, in the meantime, we placate ourselves with temporary solutions, lesser versions and cover it up with a throw.
I say no more. We can’t afford to wait for our dream homes. Life is too short to live in semi-decent spaces until we can get to decorating or until the studio moves, the kids move out or whatever the excuse is. Our homes reflect who we are, and I’m not sure about you, but I don’t want anyone getting the wrong idea.
This is where DECO comes in. We are all about blending the beautiful and useful with aspiration and inspiration. We’re here to make you dream while also giving you practical insights to make those dreams come true. We travel the world tracking down the most unique, pioneering and good-looking ideas, each of which is a fresh mix of imagination and information, accessibility and luxury. This is who we are.
Together, let’s make our homes beautiful. The DECO team is at your service — ask us for advice, send us pictures of your home and let us know what you’re up to. We’d love to hear from you, so tweet @ELLE_Deco.
Enjoy the issue.
