If you haven’t heard of her before, you will now…
French designer Inga Sempé’s growing reputation as one of the hottest designers on the planet was confirmed last night when she was named ‘Designer of the Year’ at the annual ELLE DECORATION International Design Awards (EDIDA), held in Milan as part of the Furniture Fair.
At a glittering function attended by the who’s who of the design industry and the international editors of ELLE DECORATION (including our very own Laureen Rossouw, who’s been tweeting furiously during the fair), Inga also won an EDIDA in the seating category for her ‘Ruché’ sofa.
Seems the judges can’t get enough of her innovative, sometimes humorous yet unaffected designs – and neither can we. Pieces such as her ‘Vapeur’ light – somewhere between an oversized chef’s hat and a delicate hot-air balloon – make us smile.
We love the simplicity of her ceramic ‘Guichet’ clock.
The aluminium Wästberg ‘W103’ desk lamp makes use of more traditional materials.
Based in Paris, Inga set up her own practice 10 years ago after working with designers Marc Newson and Andree Putman. For more on Inga’s work as well as the other EDIDA winners, don’t miss our Revamp issue, on shelf this coming Thursday!
