Located in the iconic Torre de Madrid tower in Spain’s central capital, Barceló Torre de Madrid hotel is a five-star luxury establishment that fuses design and international trends with influences from Spanish culture, fashion and art.
Its statement look is courtesy of Jaime Hayon of Hayon Studio, an award-winning artist-designer who is known for creating unique and unusual furniture, accessories, lighting and interiors with a cool, contemporary feel.
In Barceló Torre de Madrid hotel’s 6m-high lobby, guests are greeted by an enormous sculpture of a bear adorned in zebra stripes and tipping a gold top hat in welcome. This distinct feature is not only a quirky nod to Madrid’s coat of arms, which depicts a bear and a strawberry tree, but also sets the tone for the rest of the space.
Matte painted walls in a muted palette of powder pink, sage green and slate grey provide a complementary backdrop for a range of vibrantly-hued custom furniture, much of it designed by Hayon himself.
Commissioned artworks depicting men and women in typical Spanish dress reflect the designer’s desire to showcase the richness and diversity of his culture.
‘Aside from being my hometown, for me, Madrid represents Spain’s diversity and richness,’ says Hayon. ‘I was fully dedicated to the creation of a very special and unique space that would represent a new vision of Spain, a vision far from the traditional aesthetic.’
Each one of Barceló Torre de Madrid hotel’s 258 rooms is fully equipped, and feature sumptuous details such as gilded mirrors and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer guests unrivalled views of the city. Hayon’s playful use of colour and shape is clearly evident and results in an arresting Mid Century Modern-type feel with a whimsical air.
Complete with a health centre and spa, GARRA lobby bar and SOMOS restaurant that serves Asian- and Spanish-inspired dishes, Barceló Torre de Madrid hotel is a world-class destination ideal for design aficionados and the aesthetically inclined.
