When it comes to remodeling a home, more and more owners are focusing on improving the look and feel of their bathroom than any other room in the house. By focusing on changes to the room’s structure, comfort, and the latest technology; here’s how you can upgrade to the bathroom of your dreams with these 2014 trends.

Top technology

Many homeowners create their bathrooms as the perfect place to relax and clear their mind. With the latest technology, you can now feel like you are getting the best treatment at a spa. To keep your beauty products fresh, whether they are organic or best when chilled, you can install cooling systems with different settings in your bathroom cabinets. Also, more and more bathrooms are including surround systems and entertainment centers. Whether you want to catch up on your favorite show, listen to an audio book or music while taking a bath, you now have plenty of options to choose from while in your bathroom.

Heated Floors

When it gets cold out, the last thing you want is to be stepping across a cold tile floor. Now, you can install heaters under your floor to keep the tiles toasty warm! The heat can also help excess water to evaporate much faster in order to stop mold and mildew from growing on the tiled floor.

Combine your bathroom with your bedroom
In place of separate rooms, more people are tearing down the walls between their bathroom and bedroom to include both in the same room. Some designs have a pivoting door installed as an option to create some separation, but the combination of the two intimate rooms is a sign of luxury for 2014.

Curbless showers
If you have a shower, you can open the space up and make it feel more luxurious by making it into a walk-in curbless shower instead of the traditional small shower or including it as an addition to a bathtub. Not only do you have the same amount of light, but the open space allows for a more relaxing experience. If you are worried about getting too much water everywhere outside of the showering area, you can install glass doors or shower curtains as well.

Hand-held shower heads
Hand-held shower heads have been popular in Europe and Asia. Now, they’re becoming more popular in the United States as well. This is an easy, quick, and relatively inexpensive way to upgrade your shower without an expensive renovation, and most people love the many spray options available.

If you happen to be considering a renovation in your bathroom, you can consider installing a rainfall shower head where an extra-large shower head is installed in the ceiling and the effect is like standing in the rain. You can also have smaller shower heads installed in the walls which spray to the side, giving you a “shower column” effect!

Saving water with each flush

To spend less money and become even more eco-friendly, homeowners can install toilets with dual flush options to use more or less water.

Upgraded fixtures

This can be a step-up in the price and difficulty factor, but can make a dramatic difference in the look and feel of your bathroom. Installing new faucets with modern designs, and often in a brushed-metal finish or colors other than chrome, can completely change the ambiance of an existing bathroom. For the best effect, upgrade towel racks and toilet paper holders at the same time and match colors and finishes to visually pull the space together. In the past, it used to be allo about bright colors, but today, more and more homeowners are using furnishings with a saturated or light tone. As always, if you doubt your ability to install new plumbing fixtures, be sure to contact a qualified plumber and have the work done for you.

Homeowners are no longer lagging behind in the design of their bathrooms by investing in upgraded design, lighting, and fixtures. With some changes to your existing bathroom, you can bring some luxury to your home with the latest trends for 2014.
