The start of the month was great cause for celebration in the DECO office – not only had we just sent our highly anticipated Africa Issue off to print, but it was also our fearless leader Bielle’s birthday. To mark the occasion the team headed off to Bouchon Wine Bar & Bistro for a tapas lunch that certainly didn’t disappoint…
Located in Hout Street in Cape Town‘s city centre, Bouchon has a warm and welcoming atmosphere and strikes the perfect balance between relaxed and sophisticated. The layout of the restaurant capitalises on the industrial charm of the cellar, and sits alongside wine barrels and wine machinery. The kitchen, seating area, and bar area are all separated from the working of the cellar by a glass wall, allowing guests a clear view. Bouchon is a highly recommended spot for the discerning wine enthusiast. Diners have the unique opportunity to enjoy a spectacular range of international and local wines by the glass without having to commit to an entire bottle.
Our Bouchon experience was kicked off with a round of champagne because lets be honest, what’s a birthday without bubbly? After presenting Bielle with her gift we spent the next few minutes chatting amongst ourselves and admiring the design of the bistro. It wasn’t long before our waiter exited the kitchen and presented us with a selection of flavoursome dishes. Our table was laden with portions of beef cubes with béarnaise, duck springrolls with hoisin and ginger dip, potato gnocchi with wild mushrooms and pecorino, honey and fennel roasted pork belly cubes and kingklip goujons with tartare sauce, among others. To say we were impressed would be the understatement of the century. The meal went down a treat and was concluded with what is arguably the best cheesecake in the city.
The service is phenomenal, the attentive staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the food and wine are world-class.
