Featured on page 11 of the DECORATING issue (on shelf now) we commemorate the one hundredth year of Piero Fornasetti and his eye-catching designs (excuse the pun!) and also gives a nod to the black and white trend featured throughout the new issue. During his lifetime Fornasetti created over 11 000 pieces many of which contained the face of his muse opera singer Lina Cavalieri. What inspired him to create more than 500 variations of one woman’s face? He didn’t know, but once he started he couldn’t stop!
In his honour his son Barnaba Fornasetti is introducing some iconic pieces of furniture from Fornasetti’s imagination as well as adding pieces to these. The result is a contemporary vision embellishing on Fornasetti’s vast and eclectic world. The Fornasetti Store in Milan will also be hosting a special series of exhibits of its own creations drawing inspiration from that period.
The iconic face of Lina Cavalieri was featured over 350 times in the “Tema e Variazioni” (theme and variation) plate series.
