DECO talent is always on the scout for talent of all kinds and when great art and furniture are found in one amazing creative space, we can’t help but get excited. WHATIFTHEWORLD is a project space situated in the heart of Woodstock in Cape Town. The latest artist on exhibition, with limited edition prints selling at CO-OP in Joburg, is German-based illustrator Olaf Hajek. Immersed in a world of surreal fantasy and beauty, he draws inspiration from diverse references such as 1960s African studio photography, Renaissance perspective and the Dutch still lifes of the 1600s. His work is underpinned by the colour and texture of folkloric imagery.
Olaf Hajek is currently one of the most internationally-renowned and sought-after illustrators and visual artists. This is Hajek’s second solo exhibition with the gallery, and many of the paintings were produced during the course of a recent artist’s residency in Cape Town. The exhibition will be accompanied by his second major monograph titled ‘Black Antoinette’ published by Gestalten.
CO-OP, situated in bustling Braamfontein in Joburg, northern sister to WHATIFTHEWORLD project space, is an art and design showroom home to Doktor and Misses’s studio. We decided to check out the latest happenings in their studio and were pleasantly surprised. As winter approaches, breathe life and colour into your home with these vibrant pieces. Their innovative yet functional designs are the perfect way to achieve a creative workspace as seen in our Ed Laureen’s home.
