DECO has been tracking all the exciting changes that are happening in the realm of local craft. In our latest Country Issue #90, we look at the ways in which weaving in particular is being integrated in local and global design.
We are incredibly proud of the superior quality of work that is being created in South Africa as well as the escalation of inter-disciplinary and inter-continental collaborations that are happening.
In Issue#90, we introduce you to Editions in Craft, as well as People of the Sun, both of which are non-profit organizations that harness the potential of local craft to uplift people. They facilitate synergy between internationally renowned industrial designers and local artisans in order to encourage the development and preservation of a local craft in a sustainable and commercially viable ways.

Ben Barretto is an Australian artist living in Los Angeles who, in addition to painting and sound performances, crafts woven wall hangings. The ‘weaves’ are handmade from vibrantly coloured ropes and cables that are exclusively sourced from hardware stores.They are the perfect fusion of the new and the old and age-old traditional craft and modern technology.
