Try these simple beer bread recipes with one of the craft beers featured in the DECO Eat section, PG. 109, in our latest Country Issue#90 (on shelves now).


3 cups bread flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 tablespoons freshly chopped chives
55-70 grams  bacon, cooked and  crumbled
3/4 teaspoon salt
355 ml beer
57 grams melted butter

Preheat oven to 190 degrees C.  Grease a 12cm baking pan.

Mix the flour, baking powder, chopped chives, salt and bacon.

Add the beer and stir until just mixed.

Place  the mixture into the baking pan and pour the melted butter over the dough.

Bake the dough for 40-45minutes or until the top of the beer bread has browned and a toothpick placed into the centre comes out clean.

Cool for 4-5minutes before serving.

3 cups bread or unbleached all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 (12-ounce) can of beer
1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted


Heat oven to 190 degrees C. Lightly grease a 12cm loaf pan

Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt

Add beer and  stir until just mixed.

Fold in Gruyere cheese and rosemary

Pour batter into prepared pan and even  the top

Pour melted butter over top of bread

Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean

Cool in pan 10 minutes and then remove to completely before serving
