Michael Chandler’s Cape Dutch inspired pendant collection (above and below) has been on our wish list for quite some time, and for good reason – our latest Summer Issue is filled with inspired living in true Cape style and features a wish list of local gold products. Michael’s jewellery, ceramics, decor and furniture pieces are a revival and play of all things Cape, inspired by Cape furniture and Dutch trade pieces. ‘Inspired by hours spent getting to know Antique Cape Furniture at Sotheby’s/Stephan Welz & Co., I decided to do a jewellery range based on the key plates found on grand old pieces of Cape Furniture’, says Michael.

‘These escutcheons, made from brass and sterling silver, are smaller versions of the original and combine traditional hand-cut work with laser technology.’ These intricate shapes also remind us of the elaborate key plates so characteristic of Cape Dutch homestead doors.
