This week Knysna is in for a treat as the unique ceramic style of Lucinda Mudge comes to town. Lucinda’s humorous, satirical take on observations of South African life come together beautifully in rich, colorful pieces. By using a mixture of her own stains and glazes, the look of each is as distinctive as the narrative they tell.
Two of Lucinda’s pieces were selected by Amelie Klein, curator at the Vitra Design Musuem and Okwui Enwez (Director of Venice Biennale 2015) to form a part of the MAKING AFRIKA exhibition. Running from 14 March, Making Afrika showcases the best of contemporary African design, exhibiting pieces from over 120 Artists and designers. Following the premiere at the Vitra Design Museum, the exhibition will then be presented at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Also something to look forward to is a 352 page publication which offers ‘a first-ever comprehensive overview of African contemporary design.’
Her latest body of work ‘Take What You Want’ will be on display this Thursday 19 March, at Knysna Fine Art.
