The team are excited to introduce a selection of new pages you can look forward to in each issue from now on. As seen in our #IDEAS101 Issue (on shelf Monday), Monique du Preez of SALON 91 lets us know her expert opinion on artists to keep an eye on, and whose work you should be buying.
One of the artists featured is Andrzej Urbanski whose exhibition MINDGAMES opened last night at Salon 91. Urbanski’s dynamic geometric artworks stem from a background of graffiti merged with years of Graphic Design and Fine Art study in Berlin and Switzerland.

Lucky for South Africans, Andrzej was invited by Ricky Lee Gordon of the Woodstock Exchange gallery /A WORD OF ART to participate in a residency in 2012, and has since stayed and worked from his Salt River Studio. So this talent is local and in your neighbourhood, and handpicked by Monique as work that should be hanging on your wall. If your budget doesn’t allow for that quite yet, you can see his work on the street as a mural on Side Street Studios Arcade building in Woodstock. Using 52 colours, the mural is showcased in this short film by Roman Pybus. Urbanski says
Hopefully it will become a visual anchor for the neighbourhood

MINDGAMES by Andrzej Urbanski runs from 18 March – 18 April at Salon 91 Gallery, Kloof Street.
