Captonian based artist Kirsten Lilford has made massive leaps in her young career, and has no intention of slowing down. Her paintings give you a glimpse of stories, which leaves you with a haunting feeling of a memory lost.
After graduating in 2011 from Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town, Kirsten was awarded the South African Society of Artists Award for Excellence in Painting.
In her young career she has exhibited in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Venice. Her style of painting echos the work of nineteenth-century realists, which have developed and transformed into her unique contemporary style.
Kirsten’s imagery comes from everyday snapshots of suburban landscape, domestic scenes and family outings. Through her process and style she sets a slightly sinister tone that is haunting and beautiful.
