Vintage is in and trending, and just this past weekend Durban embraced this wave by turning vintage inside out. Organised by the foresighted Miceala De Freitas, The Retro Lets Go- Vintage Festival was a celebration of all things throwback.
The colours of Durban were in full display as boys and girls took to the theme with bright red lipstick,
suspenders, bell bottoms and pin up hairstyles. And on site were professional make -up artists
helping ladies modernise the 1950’s.
Held at the rustic yet immaculate DLI Hall the festival offered variety from records, ornaments,
furniture, threads and a pop up radio station by the Whizz Kids. The event was garnished with
delectable eats and a mobile coffee bar courtesy of Bean Green. ‘’this is not another market, this is
a festival’’ says Micaela. She adds, ‘’to keep consistency, we will be hosting smaller themed events
but the festival seems to a bi- annual event’’. Later that night, as part of the festival was a 1950’s
themed after- party and the purveyors of entertainment were Renaud 5, Veranda Panda and Dr Fly
and the nurses. Meticulous planning and active social media saw the event to its success.
