Whether it’s beach volleyball in Jamaica you’re after or dodging sea urchins in Croatia, don’t let this summer pass you by without packing a bag. In our #SummerIssue DECO asked South Africa’s most adventurous celebs where to go. We hopped on board with the two-time SAMA nominee Bongeziwe Mabandla…
Favourite city getaway:
I’m going to have to say Joburg. It’s great to take time off and adventure in this beautiful place, it is still one of my favorite cities.
Where should we stay?
You can’t go wrong with the Bannister Hotel in Braamfontein. It is considered a ‘luxury budget hotel’, which says it all.
What’s the best activity to do there?
Joburg is a music hub, so if any musicians are going to be big you’ll probably find them here. Go to venues like Bassline, Kitcheners or Orbit for a great night out.
For a high-end holiday:
Japan is the most exciting place I have ever been. It’s got so much to offer so you would need to stay for a while. You will find the most amazing fashion that you won’t find anywhere else in the world, so you will definitely need a reliable credit card! Your jaw will drop at the magnitude of the Tokyo city buzz and buildings.
Where to for a weekend escape?
Head to Kei Mouth in the Eastern Cape. It’s a few hours away from East London and is the best-kept secret South Africa has. Go for the beautiful views, beaches and fresh air away from city chaos. I went to school in Lady Grey so this area is familiar to me. The remoteness, freedom and landscape is magical and cant be taken for granted.
Where is your all-time favourite travel destination?
Melbourne, Australia has to be one of the best places I ever been to. I just love the artistic lifestyle, the friendly people and the food is superb.
And for a bit of adventure?
When I was in Canada I went to a small town called Atlin and then to Hornby Island – both such cool, hippie and artistic places. That trip definitely defined adventure.
