Africa’s largest decor, design and lifestyle exhibition is kicking off in Durban and is taking a fresh spin on things that DECO rather fancies. Celebrating unique African influences and design developments from the last year, #DECOREX2016 is opening their doors with all guns blazing.
Along with the usual, vibrant shopping experience this years’ exhibition is putting a lot more emphasis on contemporary design experiences with two new highlights: Picture Africa and the Maker’s Corner. Picture Africa examines a link between photography and textiles pertaining to African design.
“Visitors should expect a kaleidoscopic amalgamation of the joyous textiles of our colourful continent and the vibrant street and studio photography that encapsulates the spirit and energy of contemporary African life.”
– Travis Hyde, Project Manager
The textile industry is experiencing quite a shift with the incorporation of new technologies, photography and print making options. Textiles are a vocal part of African design and are being stretched to new limits. Similarly, photography in Africa is being utilised in a very dynamic and positive light. Bring the two together and you are in for an awesome connection.
Moving to the Maker’s Corner, the usual Craft + Create market takes on a new look with independent creatives and a collection of handmade lifestyle goods to explore and try your skills at. The very latest DIY technology and techniques, such as 3D printing, robots, automation and drones for your home will be available for you to try. This will definitely offer first time experiences for all so get your diaries blocked!
