Save the date for our Design Banquet at Toffie Pop Culture Festival on Saturday 31 March. Amsterdam-based designer Hannes Bernard and his team from the Sandberg Instituut (Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam) will be curating and hosting a special experiential dinner, based on a similar dinner experience they hosted in December last year (see images above & below). ‘The dinner will be based on Plato’s Symposium’, says Hannes. ‘It will question the notion of food and community. The experience will create a dialogue between guests, so there’ll be no instructions – guests will have to feed and help each other.’
On the 15th of December 2011 students from the Sandberg Institute hosted a 12 hour banquet to discuss ‘designing during times of crisis’. The event was an attempt at defining and confining the idea of a crisis and discussing personal approaches or experiences of it. Their menu was designed around the idea of uncertainty and the need for people to help each other understand and enjoy the food. Everything was presented without explanation, and left to the audience to decipher.
