Latest addition to the Kove Collection, Blanko restaurant marks a new chapter in the legendary history of the 5 star Alphen Hotel in Constantia. In a sublime combination of old world meets new, a contemporary  Italian restaurant finds  it’s home in this 300 year old estate.

Blanko writes a new chapter in the legendary history of the 5 star Alphen Hotel

The iconic Alphen Hotel has an epic past involving buried secrets, spies, pistol duels and guests by the likes of Mark Twain, Cecil John Rhodes and Captain Cook. This heritage estate now has a contemporary edge with the addition of Blanko where unfussy Italian fare is served in an all-white gallery style space. Founder and MD of the Kove Collection, Paul Kovensky has a distinct appreciation for art and saw Blanko’s white interiors as the perfect canvas to showcase great art. In collaboration with the Goodman Gallery, the walls are adorned with some of South Africa’s greatest contemporary artists including William Kentridge, Brett Murray and Robert Hodgins.

Head Chef Amber-May Deetlefs has created a menu of uncomplicated contemporary italian fare full of flavor and beautifully presented.

With a 300 year history of grandness, this legendary heritage location inclusive of  a 5 star boutique hotel and world-class  art collection,  could sound a touch intimidating to some. However, the setting, exceptional staff and fresh Italian fare make one feel very welcomed and at ease.  Group Head Chef, Amber-May Deetlefs believes ‘the best food is prepared from the heart and should be something sincere and uncomplicated’. The unfussy, skillful combination of ingredients ensures you enjoy a superior quality, delicious meal at Blanko. Wild rocket gnocchi with parmesan, asparagus with baked ricotta and even the most decadent desert of tiramisu with mascarpone, coffee and chocolate are all masterfully light.

“I believe the best food is prepared from the heart – it not only has to taste good, it should be something sincere and uncomplicated”

Indulge in the sweet life at Blanko with exceptional wine, food and art

Guests can also opt for the canapé menu and sit under the oak trees surrounded by sweet-smelling jasmine (6 per person R210 , 8 per person R280, 10 per person R350). The canapé menu includes dishes such as caprese salad, seared tuna and salmon with salsa verda, bruschetta, seafood and pizza. Plus decadent sweets like chocolate tart with salted caramel, hazelnuts and ricotta. Who can possibly resist?

We believe Blanko’s contemporary concept provides a charming contrast and antidote to the “old world” architecture and ambience of the Alphen Hotel, bringing a breath of fresh air to the neighbourhood. We’ve always placed a high value on offering our guests the best, most memorable experience possible. And Blanko is simply a natural evolution of this”

– Founder and MD of the Kove Collection, Paul Kovensky
