Often referred to as the ‘Oscars of the design world’, the ELLE DECORATION International Design Awards (EDIDA) certainly lived up to its reputation with the 14th annual awards ceremony being celebrated in style this year in Milan.
The grand occasion was held during one of the biggest events on the design calendar, benchmark interior design exhibition Salone del Mobile, which takes place in Milan each year. This year’s ceremony was hosted at the Teatro Franco Parenti, a theatre restored by EDIDA 2010 winner Michele de Lucchi. Guests were treated to a spectacular show of acrobatic dancers intertwined between ribbon and silk in the spirit of the theme for the evening which was movement through threads and light.

Each year EDIDA recognises the achievements of the world’s top designers and design companies and this year was no exception with winners from 13 different categories being awarded for their talent in the field. Top honours of the night went to renowned Spanish designer, Jaime Hayon, who took home the award for “Designer of the Year” as chosen by the editors-in-chief of all 25 ELLE Decoration editions globally. &New, the joint venture of talented duo Jo Wilton and Mirka Grohn, was awarded “Young Design Talent of the Year”.

I am sincerely grateful for receiving this incredible award, it has been a brilliant event and I am so happy to be here to celebrate with my fellow design community.
– Jaime Hayon, Designer of the Year

The winners and esteemed guests, including our very own Editor Bielle Bellingham, capped off the evening with a cocktail party in the grand theatre reception hosted by Veuve Cliquot to celebrate what was an unforgettable event.
