The Emerging Creatives at this year’s Design Indaba have delivered truly amazing and exciting new work. Succeeding in creating stylish products from recycled plastic, we noticed She Collective Narratives, by Celeste Theron and Ilze Wessels.
She is not only environmentally focused, but socially driven as well. They function as a collective that collaborates with local craftswomen and artist, to develop their skills and further their careers as creatives.
The first series is titled Range One: Codified Crocheted Narratives, based on the art and craft of crocheting with recycled plastic. The range includes mats, lampshades and beach balls all done in beautiful colour combinations. A true expression of what South African design and craft has to offer, to go further than functionality and aesthetics while being aware of ones environmental and social obligations.
Founded by two Pretoria based creatives, fine art student Celeste Theron and photographer and architect Ilze Wessels, She was started with the mission of creating art that encourages positive and constructive ways of life.
