Cape Town PR and fashion maven Jenna McArthur has created a stylish sanctuary on the Atlantic Seaboard filled with feminine touches.

With a busy career running her own bespoke PR agency, it’s no wonder Jenna McArthur wants to step into a calm oasis when she finally switches off her cellphone. Home is a stunning two-bedroom flat in Fresnaye, on the slopes of Signal Hill.

I love that I look onto Lion’s Head and that I have a view of the mountain and the ocean

Jenna McArthur | Elle Decoration South Africa Being in PR, her hours are long and irregular, and she wanted her home to be a calm space she can retreat to. She worked with her close friend Jess Latimer, an interior decorator – a process she calls ‘a labour of love’. The pair stripped down the entire apartment, from the bathrooms to the floors, and started with a blank canvas.

My style has matured over the years and knowing what I love and what I don’t gave me the confidence for a change

Jess completely understood what Jenna wanted for her space, with the result being a lightfilled, minimalist home as stylish as its owner. Jenna was involved in every aspect of the revamp, from the selection of doorknobs to the subway tiling in the kitchen and bathrooms.

Jenna McArthur | Elle Decoration South Africa Jenna’s style is minimalist and unfussy, and she wanted to achieve a space that’s practical and has a luxe feel, without being pretentious. Touches of femininity, like a row of matching vases filled with single proteas and luxurious linens throughout, showcase Jenna’s innate elegance and sophistication.

I love that we accomplished an aesthetically beautiful home but one that fits perfectly with my lifestyle – it’s lock-up-and-go and fits my single working-woman lifestyle.

They maximised the space by going for all-white walls and light hues throughout, and kept the furniture and key statement items minimalist, to create a feeling of openness. The space is clean and uncluttered, and punctuated with special pieces by Jenna’s favourite artists, like Cape Town painter and illustrator Lucie De Moyencourt.

And what makes the place home? ‘For me, a home should be welcoming and should touch on all the senses. I love the little details that make it a home – like fresh flowers, and a lovely smell. Jo Malone scented candles is a small indulgence I treat myself to.’
