With over 700 entries of amazing design, BOS Ice Tea judges faced a huge challenge when choosing the winner of the Design-A-Can campaign. But as the campaign progressed, it was clear which design resonated with the BOS ethos and vision the most.

BOS has been notably and loyally involved within creative industries since their launch in 2010, with good design being an intrinsic part of the brand’s DNA. The Design-A-Can campaign launched in August last year to all South African residents and the outcome was immense. From established creatives and up-and-coming designers, to BOS consumers who entered just for fun, the campaign stirred creative juices nationwide.

It was musician, graffiti artist and designer Ofentse Letebele, who drew inspiration from 18th Century Ndebele wall paintings, that got the final vote. Echoing ‘Africa’, the design has a distinct geometric palette and a modern spin on what is truly South African, blending with the BOS family perfectly.

One of the great things about being South African is that you don’t have to look far for inspiration. I wanted to design something that could be part of a fashion statement, or interior décor. So I’m hoping people wont throw it away, but rather collect and share. I am so grateful for BOS, who has been instrumental in my career launch as an emerging creative.

So what’s in the can? You may ask. The innovative new design has been paired with an equally exciting and delicious new flavour for a limited time only: green rooibos ice tea with Yuzu. Yuzu is an emerging “super fruit” with a delicious citrus flavour and Green Rooibos provides a twist on traditional rooibos, packed with even more anti-oxidants.

To celebrate the official launch of the new limited edition can, BOS will be hosting two official launch events in Johannesburg and Cape Town and will also exhibit the shortlisted entries. Establishing an annual competition is the plan, launching the 2015 Design-A-Can competition at 100% Design South Africa later this year.

See the top entries at the Johannesburg exhibition at MOAD (Museum of African Design) on 16 April, and in Cape Town at 6 Spin Street’s gallery coinciding with First Thursdays on 7 May.
