In every issue of ELLE Decoration you will find homes that are sure to inspire you and make you dream – it’s something we’re quite proud of! Our latest #TrendsIssue took a trip into the heart of Cape Town, to observe the transformation of the original Art Deco Old Mutual boardroom into a jewel of an apartment, now called Mutual Heights.
The best part about shooting within South Africa is that you have that much more chance of getting your hands on the same products featured. Here are our snapshots of the items we love best:
The size of the main bedroom gracefully accommodates a work area. The OHKA desk and chair with modern sleek lines compliment the gentle curves of the stinkwood panels. The striking clear tear-drop cut Diamond artworks by Kurt Pio perfectly encapsulate the tones of the room, making a sparkling focal point. The Tolomeo Basculante Artemide desk light from Establishment makes another quality statement fitting to the space
The on trend all black kitchen designed by Leisure Kitchens has a bold and defining, blending into the space unobtrusively. The shelves displaying charcoal ceramics by Clementina van der Walt of Clementina Ceramics add an organic edge to the clean lines
The choice of blue contemporary OKHA lounge furniture lift the warm tones of the mural and stinkwood panelling. The modern lines of the white coffee table and floor lamp add a crisp contrast and the Alexander side table from Establishment gives a modern classic element. The playful design of the Gonsenhausers rug interprets the mood perfectly. The jewel tones of the Bbellamy & Bbellamy cushions add a pop of colour fitting to the theme
The gentle curves of the wood panelling, the high steel windows with their geometric shapes, the original Art Deco light fittings and the herringbone hardwood flooring are the historic elements which give this main bedroom space its unique character. The bed with its luxurious Lala Linen is cleverly placed against the wardrobe panelling which works to divide the room and anchor the bed. The soft colour palette is pulled together by the Kurt Pio clear tear drop cut Diamond artworks. The light toned rug from Mae Artisan Rugs breaks the floor space and the wood tones, adding a layer of comfort.
The aubergine coloured Kartell stools add a contrasting pop of colour along with the yellow round-cut Peridot artwork by Kurt Pio and citrus toned geometric rug from Mae Artisan Rugs.
