“No princess will lose sleep over a pea in a Hästens bed.”

So say Hästens, makers of luxury beds from another dreamland altogether.

On Wednesday night last week the opulent Swedish bed brand joined forces with Klûk CGDT to produce a fairytale curtain-raiser for Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Cape Town. Kicking off with a cocktail party and an installation of a Hästens bed stacked almost to the ceiling with Hästens beds in the brand’s stylish signature style cotton gingham.

Who was there? For one, Katryn Kruger, 17 year old South African super-sensation who has already strutted down the catwalk for Chloé, Prada, Valli, Max Azria, Herve Leger, Elie Saab. She also opened and closed the Valentino show during the Fashion Week 2012.

Klûk CGDT created table settings filled with decadent cakes and every manner of sweetness – including a few real live models.

Cape Town mayor, Patricia de Lille, announced that Cape Town will host the African Fashion Week for the next two years, at which point the table models leapt to life and ballerinas started filling the stage.

The show included fairytale characters: Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and the Evil Queen. There was even a happily-ever-after wedding dress ending.

The rain of confetti over the finale was the big wow to end a dreamy night.

“This has been a phenomenal project and easy partnership due to the great synergy between the brands…glamorous style with 50’s gingham flair,” said Christiaan Gabriel du Toit, designer and co-owner, Klûk CGDT.
