Appropriately enough for the Valentine’s Day opening date, the new exhibition at the Grande Provence Gallery is called ‘Heartland’.The show features work by painters Jane Eppel and Mila Reyneke, as well as work by sculptor Marieke Prinsloo.

Jane Eppel Heartland

Jane Eppel is showing a series of oils, some of which are pictured here. She has the following to say about them:

These new paintings depict recent journeys around Southern Africa: from the Richtersveld to the Kalahari and east into Mabuasehube; from the bushveld of Thabazimbi back to Scarborough in the Cape Peninsula. But the paintings (of trees, paragliders, cairns of rocks that other times and travellers have left behind) operate also on a symbolic and metaphoric level: ‘heartland’ emerges as the terrain of the heart, and the journeys as travellings inward towards ourselves.

I’m surprised that that a publication of your standards would get involved in what is set to be one of the biggest environmental disasters Elgin has ever seen. You should have been more careful. There is no impact study, no plans passed. The entire operation is unlawful. I look forward to seeing your comments in Noseweek.
