A 1930’s apartment in Milan, as seen in Elle Decoration Spring issue no. 110, is the ultimate stylish rock ‘n roll contemporary space sitting beautifully in an Art Deco palazzo.
A contemporary modern lifestyle is beautifully envisioned on the second floor of a 1930’s Art Deco building in Milan. Owner Valerio Leone (a fashion designer who has worked with names such as Dolce & Gabbana and Jil Sander) and his wife Nastya wanted the design to be ‘radical and very rock ‘n ‘ roll whilst architect Hannes Peer sought to redefine the space whilst respecting the historical architecture.
Hannes has deconstructed and transformed this apartment, adding or subtracting historical authenticity as necessary.
Original elements remain in the home – such as the plaster ceiling decor and the Carrara marble flooring with brass details. The rich palette of the apartment includes silk rugs, oxidized metals, glossy glass table surfaces, leather, Fontainebleau wallpaper and marble.
The rooms are not outwardly grand in terms of scale but the apartment is certainly grandiose.
The light white rooms have selected walls left bare brick-faced, and in contrast the kitchen is glossy black Marquina marble where nothing less than a Ettore Sottsass ceramic vase sits pretty – the ultimate cherry on top of this exquisite home. It’s one of the DECO teams favorite of all time so get your Spring copy now to see the full Home Milan story.
