The changing of seasons is always a time that spurs one to think about life changes, big or small. It’s no surprise then that Home Organisation is one of Pinterest’s seasonal trends with 14 million searches, a 40 per cent global increase.

According to Pinterest’s Back to Life Report 2018, the most searched home areas for spring-cleaning pinners are the closet (3,8 million searches), kitchen (2,2 million), bedroom (1,9 million) and bathroom (1,8 million).

Unsurprisingly, storage solutions also feature top of the search lists. It’s not just homes where people want to create more order, it’s in their handbags too; ‘Purse storage’ saw an almost 100 per cent increase in searches alongside ‘blanket storage’ (up 38 per cent) and ‘hidden storage’ (up 59 per cent).

It also seems that a decluttered home is nothing without a decluttered mind; the self-care trend has encompassed homes too – searches for ‘meditation gardens’ have increased 48 per cent and ‘meditation spaces’ 38 per cent.

If you’re itching to live a clutter-free life but don’t know where to start try using The KonMari Method™ developed by Marie Kondo, Japanese home organisation guru and author of the bestselling The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying; here are the 6 steps:

  1. Commit yourself to tidying up
  2. Imagine your ideal life
  3. Finish letting go first
  4. Tidy by category, not by location
  5. Follow the right order
  6. Ask yourself if it sparks joy
