We have a new secret weapon. She has long dark hair, an incredible sense of style and an inexhaustible drive to make things beautiful. We like to call her our ‘in-house virtuoso’, but she also answers to Jeanne.

Jeanne studied BA in Fine Art at Stellenbosch, majoring in sculpture and silkscreen printing. She then moved into set building in the movie industry; doing sculptural work, set dressing, painting etc. She also worked for an interior designer, was a high school art teacher and then started to do freelance styling work. This all lead to her taking the position of Décor Editor at House & Leisure.

What is your favourite décor trend at the moment?
Pattern on pattern, bold wallpapers and metallics.  My bedroom includes bold wallpaper by Vivienne Westwood, and my bed has got pattern on pattern on pattern.

What is on your décor wish list at the moment? Ferm Living storage tins from detail24.co.za.  I have started collecting Kaleido trays designed by Clara von Zweigbergk.  I would love anything by Scholten & Baijings. Christian Lacroix fabrics available at Home Fabrics, Geometric patterned dhuri rugs from Gonsenhausers from about R5000, and always more artwork and sculptures.

If you were a room in the house, which would it be and why? I would be the bathroom. I would be one with great geometric tiles and a big freestanding bath. I love to lie in the bath – it is my relaxation space.

What are you listening at the moment? I like music that makes me feel nostalgic. My favourites include Nouvelle Vague, Stephane Pompougnac, P.J Harvey, Tom Waits, Pearl Jam and Paloma Faith.
