Elaine Holzhausen and Werner Joubert are a couple in love with raw concrete, exposed steel and stone. The macho industrial chic of their Waterkloof home, which they conceptualised and built, along with architect Andre Eksteen, pushes the boundaries of contemporary concrete minimalism, and certainly stands out amongst the leafy homes in their Pretoria suburb.

The multiple-volume expanses of concrete, timber, steel and glass are softened by a moat surrounding the entire house.

Inside, furniture is all sleek and severe modernist classics, with a dash of luxurious softness here and there.

The kitchen is part of the entertainment area, and their glossy quartz countertops on walnut storage units integrate well with the rest of the clean geometric living space.
