Just today somebody asked me if I thought if South Africa had a particular design style, and I felt a little stumped for how to reply. But when I visited the JBH Design website later in the day, I felt I’d found the answer to the question in this Braai Chair and Table range of furniture.

I love the way James B Hannah has taken two objects that must have appeared in just about every South African’s back yard at some point in the last 40 years, no matter where they live, updated their forms, and added a witty twist by replacing woven metal mesh with perforated steel usually used for braai grids.  Witty, handsome, contemporary, and unmistakeably South African.
