Let’s Decorate: Spotlight on the stitching trend

Amped by DECO FOCUS in our first Decorating Issue (on shelf since yesterday), we fell hard for the stitching trend and all patterned-inspired handcraft in the folk tradition – crafts like cross stitch, tapestry, embroidery and needlepoint. Much like folk music, these pieces bring a rich, layered look and a sense of nostalgia home. Besides the fact that the folk craft and stitching trend exhibits a link to ‘old ways’, to heritage and traditions that are full of soul, it really flaunts adventure. Think mix-matched, decorative prints with opulent, rich colour blocking. Folk is fancy and full of fun.

Plascon agrees! As seen in Plascon’s 2013 Colour Forecast, Folk inspires the colour palette ‘Dare’… “Time for us to shift gears and move out of our comfort zones! These zinc toned brights are energy-boosting without being manic…”

Turn to the FOCUS section on page 116 in our latest issue – The Decorating Issue – for decor ideas showing you on-trend looks and ideas using stitching, botanicals, checks and other beautiful fabrics.
