Anish Kapoor is an artist that practically takes your breath away whenever you are lucky to see a piece by him in person. The ArcelorMittal Orbit is his latest piece for the city of London and commissioned for the 2012 Olympics. Could this be the new Eiffel Tower or Statue of Liberty?
His work is usually gigantic (above), but I sometimes prefer his more intimate pieces. I remember when the National Gallery in Cape Town had exhibited a piece by him about 15 years ago. I worked in an office nearby and spent a month of lunchtimes staring at the mesmerising sculpture. It was indigo blue and it was magical.
