Last week we introduced you to Gabriella Neumbo and this week it’s time for you to meet her fellow DECO intern Lucille Dyosi. Cape Town local, Lucille, is a woman of many talents having studied jewellery design, photography, and digital marketing. She assists both the editorial and digital departments here at DECO.

What projects are you working on at DECO at the moment?
I am currently between working on a story for the online and sourcing images for editorial.

How do you spend your time when you’re not running around for the DECO team?
I usually bore a bunch of friends with ideas and strategies. I am always thinking of ideas and new ways to do things. I am currently working with a friend on a concept and assisting friends or family who need my services.

Why did you want to join the DECO team?
I have always been intrigued by décor, fashion and cultural identity within these platforms. I joined for the experience, to learn and do what I love

What are you most looking forward to about the experience?
I am an observer – for me it’s the listening and seeing how things are done that make the experience pleasant. At the end I get to walk away with bigger and better ideas.

Tell us your favourite thing about spring?
My room gets to be warm (trust me, in winter my room is a snow palace).

Where will we find you hanging out this spring/summer?
Probably at home or anywhere where there’s good company.

What would your ideal weekend entail?
A Jamaican themed party surrounded by family and friends.

Whats your favourite meal to cook at home?
Very simple, samp cooked by my mother.

Favourite room in the house and why?
As much as it is cold, it has to be my room – so peaceful from the chaos of the world. It is where I get to breathe and think.

Best shop for décor?
Second shops, they have the best classical, timeless pieces.

Which décor trend are you loving right now?
Minimalism, I love the effortlessly effect.

What are you reading right now?
ZAG, a book on strategy by Narty Neumeier

Listening and downloading?
Corinne Bailey Rae –  The Heart Speaks in Whispers album.

What are your favourite websites for inspiration?
All social media platforms. I could be watching a music video on Youtube and get an idea and think how can I interpret that using South African culture, or I could see a picture on Instagram and obsessively get inspired by the idea.

What app could you not live without?
I could actually live without a lot of them but I am currently enjoying Instagram.

Best advice you ever received?

Just be you! That’s all you can do for the world, is to be yourself

– my mother

‘Never take advice from someone who’s not in the position you’d like to be, look for people who have achieved concrete things, people who live, sleep, and eat from the results of their achievements.’ – Sarah Diouf

Words of wisdom from fashion muse Sarah Diouf |

What advice would you give to others looking to intern at DECO?
Come with an open mind, observe and learn. Ask questions, be present and experience the experience.

What do you think you’ll be doing five years from now?
So many things but time can only tell…
